| i. This Application Form is meant for properties found in the sewered areas of Mauritius and for which a direct sewer connection can be provided (i.e. no extension of the street sewer is required).
ii. An application for a sewer connection (by gravity) may not always result in a successful sewer connection. Its feasibility depends on various factors such as the depth of the sewer connection point, pipe gradients, permissions and wayleaves among others.
iii. An applicant who is not the owner of the property for which the application for sewer connection is being made, shall provide all necessary documents allowing him to proceed with the application.
iv. All necessary agreements between private parties such as ‘Permission from neighbour’ or ‘Permission to use common access’ shall be obtained by the Applicant and a copy submitted with the application.
v. The cost of sewer connection works initiated through this application is regulated by the Free House Connection Policy which limits the extent of works that can be carried out by WMA’s appointed contractor. You will accordingly be informed in due course by the WMA, of additional work (if any) that may be required to be carried out at your own cost.
vi. The cost of the works for sewer connection is presently being borne by Government up to the threshold limit stipulated under the Free House Connection Policy. Any additional sewer reticulation work beyond this threshold shall be borne by the Applicant. Requests for alterations or additional works beyond the works required to provide a sewer connection by WMA’s appointed contractor, shall not be entertained.
vii. The WMA will provide sewer connection within the shortest possible lead time. It is to be noted that this lead time may also be dependent on factors (e.g complexity of the works, necessary clearances, weather conditions, etc.) which are beyond the control of the WMA.
viii. The Applicant shall be responsible for ensuring that his property is properly cleared from debris and other obstructions (e.g. construction debris, on-ground water tanks, temporary structures, trees.) and suitable enough to allow the Contractor to proceed with the sewer connection works.
ix. The Applicant shall be responsible for ensuring that the boundary lines of his property are clearly shown to the Contractor on site. The WMA shall, in no way whatsoever, be liable if the constructed sewer alignment encroaches an adjacent property. Any remedial work arising thereof shall be borne by the Applicant.
x. In situation where earth fills are required to ensure that sewer pipes stay buried, these shall be carried out by the Applicant at his own cost. The Applicant shall also ensure that all earthworks (cuts and fills) are completed prior to the sewer connection works.
xi. Final levels of manhole covers shall be communicated on site to the Contractor at the start of the works. Any change that may be required after these manhole covers have been placed to the agreed levels, shall thereafter be borne by the Applicant.
xii. The Contractor shall reinstate trenches using suitable excavated material and gravels. Any other type of reinstatement (such as concrete floors, tiles, asphalt, etc.) shall be borne by the Applicant.
xiii. No rainwater pipe or surface water collection shall be connected to the sewer network.
xiv. Manhole covers shall not be obstructed or permanently covered and shall be made accessible at all times for maintenance purposes.
xv. Notwithstanding any internal plumbing work that the Applicant needs to carry out in order to use the sewerage facilities, once the sewer connection is certified by a representative of the WMA to be functional, the Applicant will accordingly be billed as from that date. |
